On April 22, the 18-year-old male driver of a car headed to a location known for being haunted died after he accidentally drove the car off of a mountain road in Saitama Prefecture.
According to Saitama Prefectural Police, at about 9;40 p.m. on April 22, a car containing four males, drove through a guardrail and fell about 15 meters (49 feet) off of a mountain road located in the Saitama city of Chichibu.
The 18-year-old driver received a forecful blow to the chest, which resulted in his death. One of the passengers, also 18, is reported to have sustained serious injuries to his internal organs. The other two passengers reportedly only suffered minor injuries.
On the road near the scene of the accident police reported that they found a large rock, measuring approximately 50 cm long (20 in), 30 cm wide (12 in) and 20 cm (8 in) thick, which showed signs of having been dragged along the road.
Police think that the car likely hit the rock, causing it to cross into the opposite lane and off of the road.
One of the passengers has been quoted as saying, “There was a sudden impact and then the driver side airbag went off so the steering wheel stopped working, then the car went off the cliff, starting with the front right side.”
The four young men were friends who according to the statements of the three survivors, had gone out to “look for a haunted place.”
Police have said that they have not determined which “haunted place” the four young men were headed to. However, there is a tunnel near the scene of the accident that online is called “The most intense haunted place.”
