It’s remix time, udon style.

Udon is a wonderful and absolutely delicious type of Japanese noodles that is beloved by people around the world. However, udon also happens to be the name of an interesting Japanese composer/remixer who seems to have an affinity for store jingles, video game themes and the various sounds generated by many of today’s most popular apps.

Udon releases his work via both his misleadingly named YouTube channel (udon channel) and his Twitter account (@udon_lov – this guy must really love udon). His remixes tend to be creative 1-2 minute long EDM reinterpretations of a variety of extremely recognizable jingles and songs. So, rather than just talking about his work, let’s take a look a small selection of some of his work.

Skype remix

First up, here we have a great EDM remix of the Skype ringtone. Udon even managed to squeeze in all of the other sound effects that you hear when using Skype.

LINE remix

Next up we have a remix of the ringtone and sound effects of what is easily Japan’s most popular communication/messaging app, LINE. This one, although modern-sounding, has a bit of a 16-bit era racing video game BGM vibe to it.

iPhone ringtone

Here’s one of that classic iPhone ringtone.

McDonald’s french fry alarm

If you’ve ever been to a Japanese McDonald’s, then you’ve probably heard that high pitched repetitive deep fryer alarm that goes off when the french fryer is ready. Udon uses that, to make the song below. However, he also throws in a bit from “Koi” (Love), the incredibly popular closing theme of last year’s Japanese drama Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (for another remix of the french fry alarm, click here).

Don Quijote remix

Here’s udon’s drum & bass inspired version of the Don Quijote jingle that you’ve probably heard, if you’ve ever been to one of these peculiar Japanese superstores.

FamilyMart remix

And here’s one of that classic little jingle you hear every time you pass through the entrance at a FamilyMart convenience store (for more FamilyMart remixes you can check out this article here).

Pokemon battle theme

And now here’s  a couple of udon’s video game theme remixes. Here’s a good one of the original battle theme from the Pokemon games.

The Legend of Zelda remix

And finally, here’s udon’s take on one of the most recognizable video game songs ever, the main theme of The Legend of Zelda.

If you’d like to check out more of udon’ work you can either keep up with him on YouTube or Twitter.
