Japan Airlines (JAL) has released a new installment in their popular series of promotional videos which feature JAL employees dancing to songs sung by the Japanese virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku.

Released on Wednesday (Apr. 19) to the Japanese video sharing website Nico Nico Doga, this dance video was shot in Los Angeles and stars Okamoto-san, a JAL employee from their internet sales department, who over the course of the past year or so has managed to become a bit of an internet celebrity due to his impressive dance skills. The song Okamoto-san can be seen dancing to in the video below is called “Butterfly Graffiti” and is “sung” by the vocaloid idol, Hatsune Miku.

Okamoto-san’s Rise To Internet Fame

The story of how this airline sales rep become an internet dance star starts in 2015 when JAL released a similar dance video featuring female cabin attendants acting as a “cheerleading team” and dancing to another Hatsune Miku song, this one called “39.”

This video became quite popular online and led to the creation of more dance videos. Not long after that first video the cabin attendant cheerleaders made another appearance in a video that had them dancing to a Hatsune Miku song called “Calc.” It was in this video that Okamoto-san made his debut.

Although the dancing cabin attendants certainly had more screen time Okamoto-san, with his scene stealing dance moves, made quite an impression on viewers. Comments regarding the guy with the sharp dance moves were so positive that it wasn’t long before JAL released an Okamoto-san only version of the “Calc.” dance video.

Next up on Okamoto-san’s agenda is an appearance at a Nico Nico Doga live event where fans will be able to see him show off those those dance moves that made him famous.

No word on whether JAL has given Okamoto-san a raise for all this great publicity he’s given them. Let’s hope they have.
