Earphones fight for Akihabara!

Earphones (イヤホンズ), a music group composed of voice actresses, has released a music video in which they are tasked with protecting the otaku holy land of Akihabara.

The music video is for the group’s new single “Ikkenrakuchaku Goyōshin,” which will be released February 15th. The song is also being used as the opening theme for the anime series “Akiba’s Trip The Animation,” which began airing on January 4th.

Earphones Go Fight!

In the video the three voice actresses, Marika Kōno, Rie Takahashi and Yuki Nagaku, can be seen taking on the role of super heroes entrusted with the responsibility of defending Akihabara from evil. The video also features an interesting appearance by musician Akira Kushida, who is perhaps best known for singing the theme song of the 1983 anime, “Kinnikuman.” Kushida even makes a reference to this song, called “Kinnikuman Go Fight!,” when at roughly the 15 second mark he says “Go fight!”

Play with me… if you can.

The video also features a peculiar segment that is supposed to allow you to play jan ken (rock-paper-scissors) acchi muite hoi against the girls. You’ll see it start at the 1 minute and 30 second mark when still pictures of the Earphones members begin appearing in rapid succession. At this point you’re supposed to pause the video randomly, do the appropriate hand gesture and then judge if you won or lost by looking at the still image that you paused on. Novel idea but, not surprisingly, it doesn’t work all that well. So save yourself the trouble and just pause the video a few times  in order to check out the pictures, then keep watching.

So, if you’re ready to get hit with a flood of otaku power then check out the video below.
