He should’ve caught an Uber.
A man in Kanagawa Prefecture has been arrested after allegedly stealing a taxi, driving it drunk, and then crashing it into another taxi.
According to police in the Minami Ward of Kanagawa, it all began at about 4:35 a.m. on December 29 in the Konan Ward of the city of Yokohama. It was at this time when the suspect, a 47-year-old company worker from Sakamotocho in Yokosuka City, stole a cab from the lot of a Yokohama City taxi company.
Although inebriated, the suspect seems to have had absolutely no trouble at all starting the cab due to the key having been left in the ignition. This reportedly had been done on purpose so that the cab’s driver would not have to retrieve the key at the start of their shift.
After pulling out of the taxi company lot, the suspect drove for about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) and at about 4:40 a.m. crashed into another cab that was stopped at a red light in the Minami Ward of Yokohama.
The 54-year-old driver of the cab that was crashed into suffered minor injuries to his neck.
The suspect was arrested that same day for driving under the influence of alcohol and theft. Police are currently investigating to determine if they can bring forth further charges.
In response to police questioning the suspect has reportedly admitted to driving drunk. However, he has not been so clear when it comes to the theft of the cab, reportedly telling police “Honestly, I don’t remember.” Given the fact that admitted to driving drunk and the the vehicle he admitted to driving was the one he allegedly stole, it does not seem likely that police will accept “I don’t remember.”
