A male company worker accused of inappropriately touching a sleeping woman on a Tokyo train was found dead shortly after fleeing from Ueno Station.

According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police, shortly before 1 a.m. on May 12, a female in her 30s riding a JR Keihin Tohoku Line train made a male passenger get off the train at Ueno Station, alleging that he was a chikan (groper) and had held her hand while she was sleeping. Once off the train the man, who was in his 40s, tried to run away but was stopped.

After his initial attempt to run away, the man and the accuser went to an office located inside Ueno Station to discuss the matter with a train station employee. As the employee was going over what had happened, the man found an opportunity and fled, this time successfully.

A search of the surrounding area resulted in authorities finding the man about 200 meters from the train station, collapsed in the gap between two buildings. He was taken to a nearby hospital and declared dead shortly thereafter.

Police suspect the man fell from a building he entered after fleeing from the train station. They are currently looking into whether this is an accidental death or a suicide.
