The stars of the upcoming live action adaptation of the popular manga and anime Gintama wish viewers a “Happy New Year” in a video uploaded to Youtube on December 31.
The video begins with Shun Oguri (Gintoki Sakata), Masaki Suda (Shinpachi Shimura) and Kanna Hashimoto (Kagura) all in character wardrobe and wishing viewers a “Happy New Year” (akemashite omedeto gozaimasu). The three then break into song and dance, during which time they announce that the Gintama movie will be released this summer. They also make a joking reference to One Piece when they mention “becoming Pirate Kings” before getting cut off. The video also features the alien companion character, Elizabeth, holding up a sign that reads “Happy New Year” (ake ome). The video then ends with a teaser for the movie, which was released last month..
The live action Gintama movie is slated to hit theaters in July of this year.
