The Saiyan Saga is one of Dragon Ball’s most popular story arcs. And that’s for good reason. It completely changed reframed a lot of what readers/viewers knew about Dragon Ball up until that point. It’s also filled with many incredibly memorable moments, such as the one where Goku realizes that he was the monster that had killed his grandpa and appeared at the 21st Tenkaichi martial arts tournament. This is easily one of the most notable moments in the entire franchise and it’s likely the most shocking moment Goku has experienced in all of Dragon Ball. So of course this begs the question: How did the dubs of Dragon Ball Z handle this moment? In this video, I compare how the Saban Ocean dub, the Funimation re-dub, the Dragon Ball Z Kai dub (English), and the Latin American dub handled this scene.
