Who says you’re judgement isn’t impaired when you’re drunk?

A newspaper delivery man in Fukuoka, Japan, who allegedly operated a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol was arrested on July 20 after police say he tried to deliver a newspaper to a police officer while still intoxicated.

According to the Fukuoka Prefectural Police Department, between the hours of 6 p.m. on July 19 and midnight on July 20, the suspect, a 39-year-old part-time newspaper delivery man named Kiyotaka Nakanishi, consumed as many as 10 glasses of alcoholic beverages, including beer and chuhai. After consuming these beverages, he began to operate a motorized bicycle in order to deliver that morning’s newspapers.

At about 3:45 a.m. Nakanishi attempted to deliver a newspaper to a Kitakyushu police box, however, when police saw Nakanishi they noticed he was walking unsteadily. This caused police to test Nakanishi’s blood alcohol level. Finding that he was four times over the legal limit they arrested him on the spot for driving while under the influence. Nakanishi has admitted to the charges.

Nakanishi worked for the Japanese newspaper, Mainichi Shinbun. In response to the news of Nakanishi’s arrest the newspaper has put out a statement saying that this incident is “truly regrettable.”
