The tourism bureau of the Kyushu city of Miyazaki has released a new ad promoting Nishitachi, a night life district popular with locals but relatively unknown to outsiders.
With a history dating back to 1955, Nishitachi is the largest night life district in Miyazaki and a popular hang out of many Miyazaki residents looking to have a good time and enjoy a few drinks before heading home after work. The district is filled with eateries and, of course, various kinds of drinking establishments, including snack bars, a low-budget and ‘cozy’ take on a hostess bar, that much like its higher priced counterparts, employs women to talk to male customers and pour them drinks.
Interestingly, Miyazaki Prefecture has the most snack bars per capita in all of Japan. So it’s not all that surprising that this new ad features plenty of drinking with what appear to be snack bar employees.

The video begins in a Nishitachi shop with a mysterious man silently working on his computer and not at all having fun. He’s then approached by a girl who appears to be snack bar employee. She tells him that “This is Nishitachi” and that he should have fun or he’s going to miss out on a good opportunity to enjoy himself. This then seems to spark something inside him and along with a change in his attitude comes the infectious bass line of the Nishitachi themed song that plays throughout this ad.

The rest of the video is something like a dance scene from a musical but with a lot more drinking and set in a Japanese night life district.
