When people hear the term Vocaloid, most immediately think of the “virtual pop idol” Hatsune Miku, and that’s for good reason. For example, there’s the Chinese virtual singer Luo Tianyi (洛天依). Developed by Bplats, Inc. under the Yamaha Corporation, together with Shanghai HENIAN, Luo Tianyi was released in 2012, and has gone on to become China’s top virtual singer, holding massive hologram concerts, collaborating with top Chinese artists, and making TV appearances. In 2018 an update to Luo Tianyi was released that gave her the ability tLuo Tianyi expanded her abilities when she got an upgrade that allowed her to sing in Japanese and now she’s made her official debut in Japan in the form of a new music video.

Released on October 18, this new music video is for a song called “T.A.O.” Check out the music video below.

This project was brought to life by a creative team who were overseen by Jin, a.k.a. Shizen no Teki-P (自然の敵P), who is a well-known Japanese musician, producer, lyricist, novelist, and screenwriter. He is best known for his Kagerou Project mixed-media franchise.

The release of Luo Tianyi’s first Japanese language music video was also covered by the Japanese virtual YouTuber Shiro in the video below. The video is completely in Japanese.

And if you’d like to see Luo Tianyi doing a live performance of another Japanese-language song, you can do so by checking out the video below.

Does this mean that there will soon be a join concert featuring both Japan’s number one virtual singer, Hatsune Miku, and China’s number one vitual singer, Luo Tianyi? It definitely seems possible, but only time will tell.
