Following numerous eyewitness reports, city employees in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, captured an alligator gar that was living in the outer moat of Nagoya Castle.

The non-native predatory fish, known for its long alligator-like mouth and sharp teeth was captured and removed from the outer moat of Nagoya Castle by city emloyees in a boat on March 17 at around 5:30 p.m. The specimen that was caught is reported to have measured roughly 1.4 meters (4.6 ft) in length, which is slighly above average for an alligator gar.

City officials intend to keep searching the moat since they believe that there is still one more alligator gar living in the castle moat.
