On December 4th a man suspected of stealing dozens of
junior high school girls’ shoes was arrested in the city of Maizuru in Kyoto
Prefecture.
The suspect, a 45-year old company worker named
Shinichi Otsuki was caught at about 1:00 AM on December 4th. Police arrested Otsuki
for entering the grounds of the Kyoto junior high with the intent of stealing
female students’ shoes. Otsuki admitted to these allegations, saying “My
purpose (of entering the school) was to steal female students’ shoes.”
According to police, they had been staking out the
junior high that night because shoe theft incidents had occurred in both
December of 2014 and 2015.

After his arrest police searched Otsuki’s residence and found about 50 pairs of
shoes in a 3-level plastic storage case. In response to this discovery by
police Otsuki has been quoted as saying “I stole them (the shoes) to smell
them.”

Much like the foot licking man (read about him here)
this guy clearly had a problem. This wasn’t a simple shoe or foot fetish. This
man clearly couldn’t control himself. He was a 45-year old man with a job who
should be fully aware of the risks that come with breaking into a school and
stealing shoes and yet he still chose to do it. Not only that but it seems like
he did this every December. It was his little Christmas ritual. As everyone else was
busy putting in their Christmas fried chicken orders (a common practice in Japan) this guy was making his shoe wish list. Then once it was ready he would set out in the middle of the night, sneak into the school, head to where the students kept their school shoes and start smelling all the girls’ shoes, only picking the most aromatic ones. Quite the Christmas tradition. Interestingly, the foot licking man is also from Kyoto so maybe these guys will cross paths in court or jail. I bet they would have a wonderful time together.
